Michael Gentry Mills, 61 of Sun City, died Wednesday, January 10, 2007, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.Born in Wichita, KS, he was the son of the late R. Q. Mills and the late Velma (McGarvin) Mills. He married Gwen Crookham January 5, 2002 at Colorado Springs, CO.
A lifetime resident of Barber County, he was a member of the First Baptist Church in Medicine Lodge, a lifetime member of NRA and a member of South Central Kansas friends of NRA, Pratt Saddle Club and BPOE Lodge 1451 in Pratt. He volunteered with the Barber County Rural Fire Department for 32 years, was a member of the Kansas Draft Horse and Mule Association. He was a former Barber County Commissioner for 18 years. He was a rancher in the Sun City area.
Survivors include: his wife: Gwen (Crookham) Mills, Sun City; daughter: Michelle & husband Mark Huddler of Deerhead, KS; 2 stepsons: Eric Freeman of Sun City, and Kevin Wingate of Denton, TX; 3 stepdaughters: Becky Freeman of Sun City, Krystal Atteberry of Pratt, and Mellissa Ricker of Augusta, KS; one sister: Peggy Wessel of Baldwin City, KS; 7 grandchildren: Sierra, Levi, Annalyn, and Slade Ricker, Karsen & Grayson Wingate, and Brett Atteberry.
Visitation will be Monday, January 15, 2007, from 10-8 at Larrison Funeral Home, 120 E. Lincoln, Medicine Lodge, KS.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 15, 2007, at 2:00 pm at First Christian Church, Medicine Lodge with Pastor Tom Walters officiating.
Burial will be in Lake City Cemetery, Lake City.
Memorials may be made to The Kansas Draft Horse and Mule Association in care of the funeral home.

Michael Gentry, a good lad,
Was better known as "Cactus" by his loving Dad.
A good boy, full of fun,
He grew up on the 2 over 1.
Mike learned to ride on Tex and Buck,
He was right at home behind the steering wheel of a Chevrolet truck.
He never knew a stranger, this loving boy.
To all who knew him, he was a real joy.
Mike learned to work cattle from his Dad, Harve, Temple, and Jack.
They got him off on the right track.
Mike was civic minded, not envious of his peers.
He served as county commissioner for 18 years.
Mike liked working horses and mules and living in the past.
He wished the old times would forever last.
Mike is gone now, this is the end.
