Pearl Edith DeGeer
Mrs. Frank DeGeer, Barber county pioneer and resident of Medicine Lodge for a number of years, until moving to the family homestead south of Lake City about a year ago, died suddenly at her home Saturday afternoon from a heart attack.Although not in the best of health since suffering a heart attack about two years ago, Mrs. DeGeer was not ill at the time of her death and her passing came as a shock to her many friends and acquaintances.
Funeral services were held at the Forsyth Funeral home Tuesday, January 19, at two o'clock with Rev. L. H. McCormick, pastor of the Presbyterian church officiating. Interment was in Highland cemetery. The order of the Eastern Star conducted the committal service.
Pearl Edith, the daughter of Andrew and Nancy Jane Trotter, was born November 4, 1885 at Wellington, Kan. In 1886 her parents moved to Barber county near Lake City, Kan., where they homesteaded a farm. Here she grew to womanhood, receiving her education in the rural schools and the Medicine Lodge high school from which she graduated in 1905. She taught one term at the Deerhead school.
On May 1, 1907 she was married to Frank J. DeGeer of Lake City, Kan. To this union were born four children, two sons and two daughters.
Early in life she became a Christian uniting with the Adventist church. It was always her determination to make her life count for Christ and the advancement of His cause.
She was an active member of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her husband, Frank J. DeGeer, of Lake City, Kan.; four children, Lloyd W., of Wichita; Eunice DeGeer, of Hays, Kan.; Eula DeGeer, of Waco, Tex.; Chris W., U. S. army air corps; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Lloyd, and grandson, Meryl, of Wichita, Kan.; one sister, Mrs. Elsie Krone, of Cherryvale, Kan. Three brothers and one sister have preceded her in death. Also she is survived by four nephews and five nieces.
As a wife and mother she was always devoted to the welfare of home and loved ones and as a friend and neighbor she ever sought to be loyal and helpful. The memory of her life will ever rest like a blessing to her surviving loved ones and friends.
