Funeral services were held here last Thursday afternoon for Mrs. C. S. Page, 84, Barber county pioneer who died at her home in Medicine Lodge Tuesday evening after an illness of several months.The rites were held at the Methodist church. Arrangements were in charge of W. R. Forsyth & Son and Rev. Brooks officiated at the services. Burial was in Highland cemetery.
Mrs. Page who before her marriage was Nancy Ellen Ford, daughter of William and Rebecca Jane Ford was born September 16, 1800, at Columbia, Adair county, Kentucky. She was the last of ten children in the family.
She was united in marriage to Charley Smith Page on October 29, 1879, and to this union eight children were born. They came to Kansas in a covered wagon in 1881, but soon returned to Kentucky. In 1883 they again came to Kansas and settled in Harper county where they lived for a time in a dugout. From about 1886 until 1888 they lived in Colorado but returned to Harper county where they lived on a ranch near Gerlane until they moved to Medicine Lodge in 1992.
This happy couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in October 1929. Mrs. Page was converted early in life and when she moved to Medicine Lodge she became a member of the Methodist church of which she was a devoted and loyal member until her death.
Her life was filled with thoughtfulness and loving kindness. Days were never too long, no task too difficult. Her home was always a place of welcome to others.
Her husband preceded her in death in 1941 and a daughter, Mary in 1919. She is survived by three sons and three daughters, Mrs. Lelia Rabe and Frank Page of Hazelton, Henry of Eugene, Ore., Mrs. Myrtle Stout of Anthony, Mrs. Laura Wilson and C. S. Page, Jr., of Medicine Lodge. Also 15 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and Mrs. Cora Ford of Colorado Springs, Colo., a niece whom she raised.
Her passing leaves only pleasant memories of a truly loving mother, grandmother and friend.
