Patsy Ann (Hyter) Humphrey, 85, passed away in Wichita on Friday, November 16, 2007. Pat was born on September 29, 1922 at Hutchinson to Samuel D. Hyter and Mina Amelia (Everley) Hyter. Her family moved to Kiowa when she was young and her father had purchased the movie theater. She graduated from Kiowa High School and attended one semester of college at Hutchinson.On October 1, 1941 she and James "Bud" Paul Humphrey were united in marriage. She attended the Congregational United Church of Christ in Kiowa for a number of years and later became a member of the United Methodist Church. She volunteered at the church, Kiowa Historical Society, General Store, and helped with Cub Scouts. She was the Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star. When she wasn’t working as a volunteer she would clean house and take on the role of doctor and nurse for her boys. One of her hobbies was to refinish furniture. She enjoyed attending all sporting events for her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one brother, Bob Hyter.
She is survived by her four sons, Jim and wife, Sue of Medicine Lodge, Sam and wife, Vicki of Kiowa, Kem and wife, Dot of Kiowa, Tad of Winfield; ten grandchildren, Tammi and husband, Chad Ohl, Joel Humphrey, Rachel and husband, Travis Pape, Emily Humphrey, Angela and husband, Erick Devoy, Kale Humphrey, Liz Humphrey, Ann and husband, Berton Walz, Trent and wife, Abby Humphrey, Taylor Humphrey; two great grandchildren, Hadley Ohl, Jonas Humphrey, and many friends.
Funeral service was held on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at the United Methodist Church in Kiowa with Pastor Wayne Stephens officiating. Burial followed at Riverview Cemetery. Arrangements were by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Kiowa, Kansas. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.lanmanmemorialscom.
Memorials may be made to the Kiowa District Hospital or the South Barber Schools USD 255 through the funeral home.
