Raymond "Ray" Leon Land

Raymond "Ray" Leon Land, age 63, died Sunday, April 1, 2007 at his home, Medicine Lodge. He was born May 18, 1943 at Savannah, Georgia, the son of Raymond Haden Land and Mary (Kicklighter) Land-Haygood. A resident of Medicine Lodge since 1985, he was terminal manager for Builders Trucking Company, and was owner/operator of Raykies Grill and Dairy, Medicine Lodge, and was co-owner of Medicine River Mercantile, Medicine Lodge.

He was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran serving during the Vietnam Conflict and the Cuban Crisis. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, and was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus member, and a member of VFW Post #69, Medicine Lodge.

On September 25, 1992 he married Frances Pelzl-Swonger at Medicine Lodge. She survives. Other survivors include a son Raymond H. Land, Salt Lake City, Utah; three daughters Tracey Owens, Lexington, South Carolina, Renee Paxson, Medicine Lodge, and Jackie Wood, Goddard; two brothers Sammy Haygood, Darian, Georgia and David Haygood, Live Oak, Florida, a sister Eletha Smith, Lake City, Florida; and 18 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, April 4, at Holy Rosary Church, Medicine Lodge with Reverend John Strasser presiding. Burial was in Highland Cemetery with military honors conducted by the U.S. Marine Corps Honor Guard.
