Ruth Arlene Selmon, age 75, of Bucklin, Missouri entered eternal life on Thursday, September 21, 2006 at Liberty Terrace Care Center after a lengthy illness.Ruth was born February 10, 1931, in Medicine Lodge, Kansas, daughter of Henry Frost and Ruby Mae (Lytle) Hollar. She was a 1948 graduate of Medicine Lodge High School and moved to Bucklin in 1960. She began her clerical career there working for the late Judge J. O. Vanosdol and the U. S. Postal Service of Bucklin and the law office of the late Harry Porter of Marceline. She retired in 1997 after 16 years of service as Superintendent’s secretary/bookkeeper of the Bucklin R-II School District and later worked part time for Advance Tax Systems of Marceline until her illness in 2002.
Ruth was a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ and His church and worshipped at the Bucklin Disciples of Christ where she was a deaconess and Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher, and member of the Choir and Christian Women’s Fellowship. Ruth loved flower gardening, music, animals, sports, knitting, embroidery, and was a beautiful seamstress.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Carla Selmon, Parkville, Gibb and Melanie Selmon, St. Catherine, and Frost and Dena Selmon, Macon, daughter and son-in-law Aleta and Philip Casady, Bucklin, and three sisters and brothers-in-law, Lavada and Lewis Hine, Manhattan, Kansas; Verda Hicks, Hutchinson, Kansas; and Marilyn and Toby Dailey, Thornton, CO; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Leslie and Mike Young, Liberty, Abbie and Rick McMullen, Logan Selmon, Dikena and Aaron Adair, all of Macon, Ashlee and Jamie James, Maryville, Allison Selmon, and Aaron Casady, both of Kansas City, and six great grandchildren, Sarah and Ryan Young, Liberty, Gavin, Dalton, and Katie McMullen and Reese Adair, all of Macon, and one nephew and nine nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother-in-law Bill Hicks, and granddaughter Alyssa Lane Selmon.
Funeral services were Sunday, September 24, 2006 at Bucklin Disciples of Christ Christian Church with Brother Clyde Enyeart officiating. Burial was in the Bucklin Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons, Aaron Casady and Logan Selmon, and grandsons-in-law, Mike Young, Jamie James, Rick McMullen, and Aaron Adair.
