Victor Austin Griswold, 87, died Aug. 27, 1997, at Cedar Crest Manor, Medicine Lodge.He was born Feb. 6, 1910, at San Antonio, Texas, the son of Arthur and Theresa (Hawkins) Griswold. He was raised in Canton, Pa. A Medicine Lodge resident since 1949, he was a retired Barber County Soil Conservationist, having worked for U.S. Dept of Agriculture for 45 years. He was a Veteran of World War II, a retired Captain.
He was a member of the Silver Haired Legislature for six years and on the Judicial selection committee for ten years. He belonged to the Lions Club.
On Dec. 28, 1942, he married Lillian Trechter at Hoisington. She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, John Griswold, Roland Heights, Calif., and Rick Griswold, Seattle; a daughter, Connie McColley, Wichita; a sister, Jean Stores, Lakeville, Pa.; and a grandchild, Ryan McColley.
Graveside service was held Tuesday, Sept. 2, 1997, at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, Wichita. A memorial service will be held at Holy Rosary Church, Medicine Lodge, on Saturday, Sept. 13, 1997, at 11:00 a.m.
