Medicine Lodge lost one of its most popular and highly respected citizens last Wednesday morning when William Percival Knight, vice-president of the First National Bank here and city treasurer, died at his home after a several months illness.Funeral services were held at the St. Marks Episcopal Church Friday at 2:30. Bishop Shirley H. Nichols of Salina was in charge. Interment was in Highland cemetery.
Although Mr. Knight's condition had been serious for some time, his death was nevertheless a great shock to the many friends he had made here during his 40 years residence in Medicine Lodge. He had been connected with banking institutions here since 1919, accepting a position with the Peoples State Bank, after taking a business course in Wichita.
When the Peoples State Bank merged with the First National Bank in 1923, his association with the bank continued until his last illness and he was serving as vice-president at the time of his death.
He served as city treasurer for many years, this position also being held by him at the time of his death.
He was a loyal church member and served the Episcopal church of Medicine Lodge in many ways.
William Percival Knight was born in Bradford, England on June 1, 1884. After spending his childhood in England he came to Medicine Lodge with his mother and three sisters on September 8, 1903.
He is survived by his sisters, Miss Marion Knight, Mrs. Edith Myers, Mrs. Jessey Illingsworth, and his brother, Frank E, Knight, of this city and Mrs. Thomas E. Clarke of Wichita and his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Rhoda Knight and a brother, Joshua Hanson Knight.
Out of town relatives here for the funeral of William Percival Knight Friday afternoon included Mr. and Mrs. Louis M. Knight and children of Manhattan, Mrs. Charles Morelock of Glasco, Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Clark and children of Wichita, Mrs. G. K. Riley of Wichita, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Myers and daughter of Kiowa, Robert S. Knight of Wichita, Mrs. James Wallace of Wichita, and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Knight of Wichita.
