Carvel and Shirley Oldham celebrate 50th anniversary

Carvel and Shirley Oldham will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a family dinner at St. Anthony's Hall and a dance at the Strong City Rodeo Grounds Shelter on Saturday, June 14. The dance will be from 9 p.m. until midnight. Their children will be hosting the event.

Carvel Oldham and Shirley Holmberg were married June 1, 1953 at. St. Anthony Catholic Church in Strong City. They have three children: Tonya Utech, Herington; Taryn Ratcliff, Emporia; and Tom Oldham, Collierville, TN. They have three granchildren: Tristan Utech and Tyson Utech, Herington; and Joshua Oldham, Collierville, TN.

In July 1957 the Oldhams came to Cottonwood Falls after three years in the Air Force. Carvel went into partnership with his father, E.C. Oldham, in the Midway Garage. After his father passed away in 1976, Carvel stayed at the garage until May 2002. He decided to sell the garage and enjoy retirement, which he is.
