THE BAZAAR CHURCH
The first Methodist church in Bazaar Township
was established in 1864. It was later discontinued
and services held in various school houses. In
1874 a few members of the Methodist denomination
met and formed what was known as the Bazaar
Methodist Episcopal church. The present building
was erected in 1908-09 with William Oles as contractor. George McClellan an experienced stone
mason laid the foundation. Much of the labor was
donated.
The building was dedicated on March 11, 1909
with Reverend Harry A. King Educational Secretary of Baker University preaching the dedicatory
sermon.
For a period between 1931 and 1944 services
were discontinued and part of the membership transferred to Cottonwood Falls. With the reactivation
of the church there was for a time a membership of'
thirty or forty persons. At a charge conference in
1969 the name was changed to The Bazaar United
Methodist Church.
