THE CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH
Cottonwood Falls, Kansas
The Congregational Church was built in 1872
and was located on the east side of Broadway -
north of the Eureka Hotel, and where Laughridge
Insurance Agency and Carrier's Abstract Office
is today. One minister is known - Rev. Freeborn
served in 1873. The Church was serving its congregation in 1886, but the time of closing its doors
is not known. H.S. Fritz bought the building and
used it for a tinshop for a long time.
Senator Pomeroy had given a bell to the Church
and it called the congregation together for services
for twenty years before the building was discarded
as a place of worship. The bell was then stored
until the city decided to have a curfew bell, and it
was put into use again. Later, the bell was taken
to the Judges Stand at the Fair grounds.
