FLOUR MILLS
In 1859, Isaac Alexander gave land to J.B.
Smith and L.D. Hinckley to build a saw-mill and a
grist mill, just west of the Cottonwood Falls River
bridge. By the fall of 1861 the mills were ready for
business. The dam was made of wood, but later replaced by stone.
In 1906, W.J. &George McNee, and
C.M. Gregory bought it. Rupert :Minor was manager.
In 1913, W.W. Austin bought it for an ice-plant,
moving into a new plant on Broadway in 1925. It
was a vacant building until torn down in the early
1940's.
