SANTA FE DEPOT AT CEDAR POINT
The first Santa Fe station was named Cedar
Grove and Mr. J.W. Byram, a surveyor for the railroad was the first agent in 1882.
After the first station burned, a new station
was built and the name was changed to Cedar Point.
This was a shipping point for cattle from Texas in the spring and going to market in the fall.
Many train loads of cattle were received for pasture
in the Flint Hills. Entire nights were spent on loading cattle that they might be started to pasture at
early dawn.
In early years four men were employed by the
station until an automatic signal came into use, then
one man took care of the business. Four passenger trains stopped daily for passengers, mail and
express.
The following are names of some of the agents:
Mr. J.W. Byram, a Mr. Hatter (first name unknown),
Robert Dietz, Harve Wright, Clarence Baugh, a Mr.
Beardslay (first name unknown), Roy Banks, Guy
L. Linnens, A.P. Sommers, Earl Bartlett, Granston
Barret, Claude Perry and D.E. Johnson.
The station has since been disposed of and
only an elevator remains which is open for harvest
and railroad cars are provided.
