Additional Information submitted Sep 12, 2005

I have some new information on Samuel Spurgeon family.

His mother born Mary Houk, died as Mary Spurgeon, Jan 1869, age 88 yrs., 1 month., female, born NC, died of Congestion Chill, no occupation, died on a farm.

[Mary Houk born 12 Dec 1780 Newton, Catawba Co., North Carolina, dt of Felix Houk]

Mary Houk m Samuel #2 Spurgeon on 6 Aug 1806 Rowan Co., North Carolina, her age 17 yrs., 7 mo., 24 days. [Samuel born 20 Nov 1770 Rowan, NC, died 20 June 1850 Wash. Co., Ind.]

[I found Mary lived 88 yrs., 1 month, but age given in printed index is age 48, an error, no other family Spurgeon lived in Chase Co., Kansas at that time.]

1885 state census, PO Safford, Chase Co., Kansas, p 56.

S. Spurgeon, 60 yrs., male, married, wagon maker, b NC came from Ind. [Samuel]
Eliza Spurgeon, 54 yrs., female, married, b Ky., came from Ind.
John Spurgeon, 22 male, single, farmer, born Kansas.
Cora Spurgeon, 16 female, single, born Kansas.
E. Morrison, 58 male, single, Farmer, born Ohio, came from Ind.
John Johnson, 11 male, single, born Kansas.

1895 state census, I found no one named Spurgeon living in Chase Co., I believe widow Elizabeth was in Emporia, Lyon Co., Kansas at that time with one of her children.

I could not find when husband Samuel Spurgeon died, but know it was between 1885 state census and 1895 state census, [widow Elizabeth died on 13 April 1899, probate of her will was Aug 1899.]
