Titus, Albert Ernest Dr.
Albert Ernest Titus was born October 25, 1885
in Shawnee County Kansas. He attended grade and
high school in Shawnee County, then entered Wash
burn College. While studying at Washburn he was
very active in sports and played on the football
team for three years. Albert graduated from Washburn with his A.B. Degree in 1910.
He attended Kansas Medical College in Kansas City, 1912 was a very busy year for Albert
Titus, he graduated from Kansas Medical College
becoming Dr. A.E. Titus, M.D. He started practice
of medicine at Auburn, Kansas in July and was
married to Jessie Lee, October 25, at Topeka.
After hearing about an opening in Chase County Dr. and Mrs. Titus went to Kansas City, walked
into a car dealers and purchased the car pictured
here. It was a 1912 Humpmobile with 18 horsepower
motor, had seteline lights and cost $825.00. Although he had never driven before the Dr. and Mrs.
Titus made the trip from Kansas City to Chase
County in five hours.
He began practice of medicine at Cottonwood
Falls April 7, 1913. His first office was in the American Hotel now known as the Cottonwood Falls
Hotel. As a young Doctor and with much time on
his hands he entered into the swing of things by
coaching for the first two years at Cottonwood
Falls.
For many years Dr. Titus office was over the
Exchange National Bank, where he was associated
with Dr. Woodhul and later Dr. Siegel. Dr. Titus
then moved into his present office.
Three children were born to Dr. and Mrs. Titus,
Albert, 1913, (deceased); Doris (Stout) 1916; and
Betty Lu, 1919 (deceased).
Dr. Titus has for a number of years been interested in Cattle and is Co-owner of the Titus-
Stout Hereford Ranch located at Bazaar.
When Dr. Titus was asked to estimate the number of babies he had brought into this world he said,
''I am sure we would be safe in saying 2,000, many
which are three generations in the same family.''
For us who have had the privilege of knowing
Dr. Titus know he has an ageless quality, for he
had been everyone's Father or older brother. He
has had the courage to forget himself and think of
others, never hesitating when instinct impelled
action, always doing what he thought necessary,
making one feel better when he walked into the room.
Yes, he was a horse and buggy doctor, but he
has never failed to learn new techniques and his
experienced eye could see a sign of an ailment,
from toothaches to Scarlet fever. He has seen many
diseases that were common to him as a young Doctor, fail to exist or become very rare.
