THE UNITED PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
The building was begun in 1882 and completed
in 1885. John Thorp and H V Simmons did the stone
and L.P. Jenson and John Patterson did the
Carpenter work. Lots were donated by Isaac Alexander While the Presbyterian Church basement was
under construction, this old "Stone Church" was
used for the "Young Married Folks Class," taught
by Janet McNee. Later, YWCA and YMCA.
made use of the building. Still later, Girl Scouts,
Business and Professional Women's Club met here
regularly.
Today, 1972, it is owned by the American Legion and it meets regularly there.
Elders of the
Church were: Charles McDowell, Sr., Robert Clements, and W.W. Sanders. Trustees were: Alexander Fletcher. J.A. McClure, and W.G. McCandless.
Most of this information comes from an article
written by John Sanders who said the only minister
he remembered was the Rev. W.C. Summers. His
son, George, married Rida Winters.
