Allen Mary Ann Rucker

Mrs Mary Allen: The following is a short sketch of the life of Mrs Mary Allen, who lived for several years with her daughter, Mrs. H A. Davis, in this city.

Mary Ann Hunt was born: January 28, 1837 in Noble Co., Ohio, and died in Steele City, Nebraska, July 18th 1908, age 71 years 5 months and 19 days. She was married to Joseph Rucker of the same county in the year 1855. They moved to Illinois in the year 1862 and from there to Corning, Kansas, in 1876, where her husband died April 10th, 1880

Twelve children blessed this union, 5 boys and 7 girls of whom 10 are yet living, the oldest boy having died in infancy and Minnie Manley dying September 24th, 1897 at the age of 27 years.

Those mourning the departure of their dear mother are: Mrs. E. C. Dennett, Omaha, Nebraska; W. G Bucker Seneca, Kansas; Mrs. H. A. David, Colorado Springs, Colorado; Mrs. Wm Furst and Mrs. F. D. Steele, Corning, Kansas; J. H. and J. L. Rucker, Wichita, Kansas; Bettie, H. B. and Nannie Rucker, Steele City, Nebraska.

She was married in 1884 to Ambrose Allen of Platsmouth, Nebraska. In the year of 1887 they moved to Steele City, Nebraska, and in 1900 they moved to Platsmouth, Nebraska Since his death Mr. Allen dying July 6th, 1903 she has been making her home in Steele City with her children.

She united with the M. E. Church when a little girl and was a member of the church at the time of her death. She was a faithful Christian and died with the assurance and hope of a Christian. Funeral services were held in the M. E. Church at Steele City, July 19th at 9.30 a. m, so the body could be taken to Corning, Kansas, to be placed beside her former husband. Six of her grandsons acted as pall bearers to the grave.
