Auker, Elden L Elden L. Auker, 95, of Vero Beach, Fla., died Friday, Aug. 4, 2006, at Indian River Memorial Hospital.
He was born Sept. 21, 1910, at Norcatur and moved to Vero Beach in 1974.
Mr. Auker was a graduate of Kansas State University, where he was a nine-letter athlete. He was selected an All-American in football, basketball and baseball in the 1920s and
'30s. He was a former major league baseball pitcher. As a rookie, Auker struck out Babe Ruth. He played for the Detroit Tigers, Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Browns. Mr. Auker was a member of the 1935 World Championship team.
Mr. Auker was the President of Avco-Bay State a leading company in the manufacturing and distribution of industrial abrasive products.
He is survived by his
wife of 73 years, Mildred Auker of Vero Beach, Fla.; a son, James E. Auker of Bingham Farms, Mich.; one grandson; one great-granddaughter; and cousin David Croy, Cottonwood Falls.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, Aug. 9, at the First United Methodist Church, Vero Beach, Fla.
Arrangements are under the direction of Strunk Funeral Home, Vero Beach, Fla.
