Barber, George

In Memoriam.

Died, at the residence of his mother, near Toledo, on Thursday, March 17, 1885, George Barber, aged 42 years and 3 days.

The announcement of the death of George Barber, of Toledo, Kas., on the 17th day of March, came to the community like an earthquake shock, instantly veiling all in sadness. He was stricken down with typhoid fever on the 8th inst. Nothing that dear relatives and friends, with the aid of the best physicians of Emporia, could do was left undone, but all to no purpose, after 9 days illness he ceased to suffer.

Pages might be written, to do honor to our loved brother but we must be content with a brief outline of his life. He was a native of England and with his (parents moved to Wisconsin in 1848, to Illinois in 1868, and to Kansas in 1861 where he has since resided.

Since the death of his father in 1869 he has been his mother's adviser and favorite child, he being so well fitted to fill the gap caused by the death of a husband. His mother, relatives and friends, realized in him a treasure, calm deliberate, thoughtful, exceedingly conscientious, nothing moved him from the quiet steadfastness...
