Barnett, Edwin W Edwin W. Barnett, 85, of Reading died Tuesday, May 17, 2005, at an Emporia Hospital.
Edwin, the son of Edward E. and
Frances Della
Junek Barnett,
was born May 27,
1919, in Reading. He graduated from Reading High School in 1937.
He farmed in the Reading community until entering the United States Army Air Corp during WWII, where he served as an airplane mechanic. He was seriously injured in an airplane crash in the mountains of New Guinea. After the service he returned to Reading and continued farming until the time of his death.
He married Jean Spatz on Dec. 14, 1947, in Emporia. Edwin had served on the Reading Grade School Board and was a member of the Lebo American Legion Post #323.

He is survived by his wife of the home; a son, Dr. James A. Barnett M.D. of Emporia; a brother, Robert Barnett of Lebo; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Joe C. Barnett; a brother, William Charles Barnett; and two sisters, Dorothy Lee Miller and Leona Ellis.
Funeral services were Friday, May 20, at the Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home in Lebo. Burial followed at Reading Cemetery.
