Barrett, Mary Belle DeMoss
Mary Belle Barrett, 87, died July 20, 2008, at Holiday Resort Care Center, Emporia.
The daughter of William C. and Martha E. Forsythe DeMoss, she was born Oct. 10, 1920, at Hartford, Kan. She married J. Richard Barrett at Cottonwood Falls on March 27, 1942. He died Feb. 7, 1999, at Emporia.
She was a homemaker. She also volunteered at the Emporia Senior Center for many years and received the Presidential Call to Service award.
She is survived by one son, Raymond Barrett of Elmdale; three daughters, Pat Applegate, Olathe; Mary Helen Laney, Riverton, Wyo.; and Martha "Marty" Knoblock, Emporia.; one step-daughter, Carol Wilson of Cottonwood Falls; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, William DeMoss; and two sisters, June Dudley and Carol DeMoss.
Services were held Wednesday, July 23, at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. Pastor Lee Hoskins of the First Congregational Church in Emporia and Ms. Susan Riley of the Emporia Senior Center conducted the service.
Burial was at Miller Cemetery, southwest of Cottonwood Falls.
