Baumgardner, Glenn Melford "Bummie"

Glenn M. "Bummie" Baumgardner, 84, of Elmdale, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1997, at his home following an illness.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, Dec. 12, at the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Chapel, Cottonwood Falls. Pastor John Lansbury officiated. Graveside Masonic Service was held at Elmdale Cemetery. Russell Schwilling orated.

Glenn Melford Baumgardner, the son of George and Blanche Baumgardner, was born Nov. 4, 1913, at Madison, Kan. He married Maria Dawson on June 7, 1938, at Cottonwood Falls. She survives.

He served in the United States Air Force during World War II. Since 1947 until present, he and his wife owned and operated Bummie's Store in Elmdale.

He was a member of Elmdale United Methodist Church, Zeredatha Masonic Lodge #80 of Cottonwood Falls, Arab Shrine Temple of Topeka, and the James William Miesse American Legion Post #22 in Marion. He was active in the Elmdale community serving as Mayor of Elmdale and currently, and previously served, on City Council for many years. He also was Scout Master for many years.

He is survived by his wife, of the home; a son, Boyce Baumgardner of Emporia; a brother, Gene Baumgardner of Cottonwood Falls; two sisters, Pearl Kinsinger of Marion and Bonnie Pracht of Hughes Springs, Texas; three grandchildren and four great-grand-children The family designated memorials to Zeredatha Masonic Lodge #80 or Elmdale United Methodist Church. These may be sent in care of the funeral home.
