Biggam, David

Dave Blggam

David Biggam died at his home in Strong City last Saturday evening, July 31st.at 6 o'clock, after an illness extending over several months. For three or four months he had been confined to the house most of the time, although he frequently was able to walk down the street a block or two.

The funeral was held at the Biggam home Tuesday afternoon and was in charge of the Masonic lodge of this city, of which Mr. Biggam was a member. His body was laid to rest in the Strong City cemetery.

Mr. Biggam was born in Ayrshire, Scotland, in April 1838 and came to America in 1859 and was a freighter in the early days of Kansas, making headquarters at Leavenworth. During the war, while not an enlisted soldier he probably saw more service than most enlisted men as he was employed to drive a supply wagon.

After the war he began working in railroad construction and in 1875 moved to Strong City. For many years he was a Santa Fe contractor and did much of the grading of the Santa Fe road bed from Kansas City through Kansas. Since coming to Chase county he has been a prominent figure in all public matters and for many years has been trustee of Strong township. He was always active and energetic. What he said could be depended on.

Mr. Biggam leaves behind to mourn his death an aged wife and three sons, besides a host of loyal friends.
