Blender, Ruth G. Ruth G. Blender, 77, died
Sept. 11, 2002, at Holiday
Resort in Emporia. The funer-
al service was Sept. 14, 2002,
at the Saffordville United
Methodist Church. Pastor
Elaine Buleigh officiated.
Interment was at Memorial
Park Cemetery, Emporia.
Ruth Geneive Jones, the
daughter of Llewelyn and
Ethel Thomas Jones, was born
May 18, 1925, at Hartford. She
attended school at Hammond
School Jt. 3 and graduated
from Hartford High School.
She worked as a cashier at the
Lebo Mercantile store in Lebo
and Foodtown Market in
Emporia. She later worked in
the office at the New Process
Laundry in Emporia.
She and Philip Blender
were married on Oct. 27, 1946,
at her parents' home near
Hartford. They resided on a
ranch in Chase County near
Saffordville where they worked
together until 1985 when they
semi-retired and moved to
Okeene, Okla. They returned
to the Saffordville ranch in
1993.
Mrs. Blender attended the
Saffordville United Methodist
Church and was a member of
the Okeene United Methodist
Church and the United
Methodist Women, Falls
Chapter #25 Order of the
Eastern Star at Cottonwood
Falls, honorary member of the
Toledo 4-H Club, and a previous member of the First
Presbyterian Church and the
Women's Circle in Cottonwood
Falls.
She took an active part
in her local community activi-
ties, extension, and 4-H work,
serving on the Chase County
Extension Executive Board
and clothing project leader for
a number of years.
She is survived by her hus-
band; one son, Howard
Blender of Emporia; one
daughter, Sharon Gardner of
Colorado Springs, Colo.; five
granddaughters; two grand-
sons; and a host of relatives
and friends.
Two sisters, Thelma
Williams and Delphene
Prouse, and a brother, Hugh
Jones, died earlier.
Memorial are suggested to
the Saffordville United
Methodist Church or the
Chase County 4-H Council.
