Bocook, Elizabeth Amanda Richards Mrs. G. W. Bocook.
Mrs. G. W. Bocook, wife of Dr. Bocook of MatfieId Green, died at her home Thursday, Dec. 81st, 1908, after a sickness of four weeks during which time she suffered great agony. But, though her suffering was great, no one ever bore suffering with greater patience. The funeral was held at the Bocook home Friday, Jan. 1st and the body was laid to rest in the Matfield cemetery. Rev. E Cameron of Cassody preached the funeral sermon.
Miss Elizabeth Amanda Richards wes born at Olive Hill, Kentucky in 1838. She was married to Dr. G.W. Bocook in 1865. In 1870 they came to Kansas settling in Marshall county. In 1876 they came to Matfield Green where they have since resided.
Mrs. Bocook was the mother of eight children; Mrs. Althea Billingslea of LaJunta, Colo, Mrs. M. L. Herring and Mrs Ella Snedegar of Matfield Green, Mr. J. E. Bocook of this city and Meaers. E. W , A. N., E. R and A. L. Bocook of Matfield Green.
Mrs. Bocook was a lifelong member of the Christian church, having joined that church in girlhood. Her life has been one of usefulness and helpfulness and both her children and her friends will testify to many acts of kindness and love and self sacrifice which have been characteristic of her christian life. The grief of those left behind is some what recompensed by the knowledge of a pure life worthily lived.
