Brown, Fred LeRoy Sr
Fred LeRoy Brown Sr., 91, of Osage City died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at the Osage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Osage City.
Mr. Brown farmed, was an automobile mechanic and an oil field construction worker before he retired.
The son of Louis F. and Edith E. Smith Brown, he was born Feb. 16, 1912, in Americus. His first marriage, to Grace V. Duncan, ended in divorce.
He married Jewel Longshore Pope on June 28, 1969, in Strong City. She survives.
Mr. Brown was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Vassar.
He is also survived by two daughters, Josephine G. Williams of Emporia and Lorene A. Anliker of Madison; a son, Fred L. Brown Jr., of Montrose, Colo.; two step-daughters, Judith A. O'Brien of Ada, Okla., and Leona K. Whisenhont of Stratford, Okla.; two step-sons, Clyve L. Pope of Cherokee and James R. Pope of Gillette, Wyo.; 11 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and many great-and step-great-grandchildren.
A son, Phillip Lee Brown, died earlier, as did six brothers and two sisters.
The funeral, conducted by the Rev. Niles Lloyd of the Trinity Baptist Church will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, in the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will
be in Cottonwood
Cemetery, west of Emporia.
