Buffon, Marguerite
Marguerite Buffon, 91, from Toledo township in Chase County, died June 11,2002, at Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan. A memorial service was held at the Saffordville Methodist Church on June 15, 2002. The memorial service was led by Nancy Harris-Ott, former member of the church and by Robert Schmuitz, pastor of Wyandotte United Methodist Church in Kansas City, Kan.
Memorials were suggested to the Saffordville United Methodist Church, Route 4, Box 54A, Emporia, Ks 66801.
Marguerite was born Dec. 18,1910, in Chase County, and lived in the Toledo township area most of her life. Her parents Walter Erickson and Myrtle Yenser Erickson were also natives of Chse County.
Her husband, Harold Buffon, a farmer and a native Chase Countain, perceded her in death Jan. 24, 1996. She also was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Jo Eidman on Nov. 21, 1991.
She taught grade school in the Toledo township area for a number of years, both as a Normal certificate teacher and then as a graduate of Emporia Teacher's College. She began her teaching career in a one-room stone school on Fox Creek in Chase county; her youngest sister was one of her eight students. The school building is now a part of the National Prairie Preserve.
Marguerite was also a very active member of the Saffordville United Methodist Church. She is survived by her daughter Donna Swank, of Kansas City, Kan. Her son-in law Morris Eidman, Emporia; and a sister Doris Anderson in Renton, Wash.; eight grand-children, two step-grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
