Burdette, John R, Sr
John R. Burdette Sr., 64, of rural Emporia died Tuesday, May 6, 2003, at Newman Regional Health.
Mr. Burdette was a truck driver for IBP in Emporia for many years before he retired in 2002. He also farmed.
John R. Burdette, the son of Thomas and Elsie Cartwright Burdette, was born March 21, 1939, at Emporia.
He married Kathryn Young. They were divorced. He married Martha Gerardy Hammond on Jan. 21, 1972, at Cottonwood Falls.
Mr. Burdette was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and the American Motorcycle Association.
He is survived by his wife; three sons, John R. Burdette Jr. and William Hammond, both of Emporia, and Russell T Burdette of Carroll, Iowa; two daughters, Vickie L. Johnson and Terri Lynn, both of Emporia; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. His parents; two brothers, C.C.

Burdette and Russell Burdette; and a sister, Eloise Burdette, died earlier.
The funeral was May 9, 2003, in the Roberts-BlueBarnett Funeral Home. The Rev. Peter Rupprecht of St. Mark's Lutheran Church conducted the service. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery at Toledo township.
