Burns, Lloyd L or "Woody"

Lloyd Lester Burns, 89, of Council Grove, formerly of Delavan, died Oct. 22, 2002, at the Lutheran Home in Herington. Mr. Burns was a longtime farmer and also worked for the Santa Fe Railway for several years.

Lloyd tester Burns, the son of William Christian and Mary Loduska Ferris Burns, was born June 28, 1913, near Delavan. He grew up on farms near Delavan, attended grade school in Delavan and gradu- ated from high school in Delavan in 1930.

He married Helen Elizabeth Cunningham on May 1, 1935. She died Sept. 15, 1983. He married Evelyn Swenson. She died Jan. 10, 1991.

Mr. Burns was a member of the Wilsey United Methodist Church. He had been a mem ber of the Delavan and Grandview school boards, a 4- H leader and a member of the Santa Fe Maintenance Union. He participated in the Senior Olympics and received a gold medal in bowling.

He is survived by three daughters, Phyllis Burns of Delavan, M. Elaine Heskett of Mankato and Janice Dike of Titusville, Fla.; one son, William Duane Burns of Mulvane; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

The funeral was Oct. 25, 2002, in the Wilsey United Methodist Church. Burial was in Delavan Cemetery at Delavan. Memorials in his name to the Wilsey United Methodist Church can be sent in care of the Memorial Chapel of the Flint Hills Funeral Home, 137 N. Union St., Council Grove, KS 66846.
