Carpenter, Edna May McKee
Mrs. Halsey Carpenter, 90, who was born and lived all of her life in or near Matfield Green, died Sunday, Jan. 23rd, in the Newman Memorial Hospital, Emporia, where she had been a patient for several weeks. Until that time, she had been active and extremely alert for her advanced years. She had resided the last four and a half years at the Chase County Nursing Center.
Edna May McKee Carpenter was born May 11, 1886, on Sharp's Creek in Matfield Township and she was married to Halsey Hardin Carpenter on July 24, 1906. Mr. Carpenter died June 19, 1958.
Surviving her are one son, George Carpenter, Matfield Green; one grandson, Kenneth H. Carpenter, his wife, Ann, and two granddaughters, Charlotte and Patricia Carpenter, Knoxville, Tenn., and one step-sister, Mrs. J. E. (Margaret) Bailey, Cottonwood Falls.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Matfield Green Community Church with the Rev. Thomas Robson, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, Cottonwood Falls, officiating. Mrs. Robert Lung sang, accompanied by Mrs. Lee Collinsworth. Pallbearers were Orville Lasater, Myron Carpenter, Earl Skirvin, Harold Swift, Frank Gaddie and Derward Bailey. Burial was in he Matfield Green Cemetery.
