Coblentz, Samuel O.
OBITUARY OF S. O. COBLENTZ.
Samuel O. Coblentz was born Oct. 25th, 1856 on a farm near Jefferson City, Missouri. At the opening of the Civil War his mother and brothers and sisters moved to Columbus,
Indiana. At the close of the war his father moved the family to a farm near Topeka, Kansas. Here
Mr. Coblentz grew to manhood.
November 16th, 1882 he was
married to Miss Martha Jane Newman who was killed instantly in an
automobile accident north of Strong City September 21st, 1918.
To this union five children were born, 2 girls and 3 boys; Herbert O., Effie M., Clarence H., Josephine B., and Wesley S.
Herbert and Clarence died in infancy.
Mr. and Mrs. Coblentz and a
daughter Effie moved to Chase county
March 1895 from Shawnee county.
Mr. Coblentz was converted and joined the Christian church at
Elmdale, Kansas in 1902.
On October 25th, 1921 Mr.
Coblentz was married to Miss Olive Christmas of Topeka and was
survived by her and Mrs. Effie Kennedy, of Topeka and Mrs. Loyd Rogler of Matfield Green, one sister Mrs.
VanOrdtrand of Carbondale, Kansas, and Wstley S. who was still at home, also one granddaughter Miss Grace Kennedy and a score of relatives and friends to mourn his loss.
Mr. Coblentz loved spirited horses and none was too wild for him to
desire to handle despite his years. He was loved and respected by all that knew him.
The funeral sermen was preached by Rev. Tanner at the hour 10:30 Thursday morning. The floral
offerings were many and beautiful. The body was laid to rest in the Prairie Grove cemetery by the side of his first wife. The pall beaers were; Mr. John Gibb, Mr. Alley Holmes, Mr. Emory Thompson, Mr. Harvey Giger, Mr. Dave Morris and Mr. Gus
Anderson.
