Cochran, J. L.

A message telling of the death of J. L. Cochran, former early settler of Cottonwood Falls and Strong City, was received here today from Arkon, Ohio, his present home. Mr. Cochran came to this county in 1870 and for many years was engaged in the drug business in the two cities. He was 72 years of age and was one of the most widely known men of this county. The funeral services and interment will be made at Arkon, Ohio.

The message telling of Mr. Cochran's death was sent to Harmon Doolittle of Strong City, by Lee Cochran, a son. No details were given concerning Mr. Cochran's illness nor about the date of the funeral, but it known that burial will be made at Arkon, Ohio, as that it where Mr. Cochran's wife is buried.

When Mr. Cochran and his family first came to Chase county he worked in the mill at this place and also followed the carpenters trade for some time. He later opened a drug store here and then became the owner of a drug business in Strong City and for a time maintained both stores at the same time. Later he sold out here and then for a number of years the operated the store in Strong City. He retired from active business and moved from this county to Ohio about the year 1903.

His many old friends and acqauintances will learn of his death with regret. Since leaving Chase county Mr. Cochran had revisited here on a number of occassions and had thus kept up acquaintanceship with his many friends and old neighbors.
