Collins, Jack Jack Collins, 82, a resident of Emporia since 1974, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004, at the Holiday Resort in Emporia.
Mr. Collins was a meat inspector for the state of Kansas before he retired in 1990. Earlier, he was a supervisor at Fanestil Packing. He was in the U.S. Army from June 1, 1941, to November 11,
1945, and served in Greenland.
Jack Collins, the son of William I. and Agnes M. Shields Collins, was born Dec. 8, 1922, at Lawrence. He grew up in the
Lawrence area and graduated from high school at Lecompton. He attended one year at the University of Kansas.
He married Helen Leslie on March 6, 1942, at Lecompton. She died Sept. 6, 1992. He married Gladys P. Craig on Jan. 20, 1993, at Cottonwood Falls. She survives.
Mr. Collins was a life-time member of the Emporia Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7957 and a former member of American Legion Ball-McColm Post 5.
He is also survived by a
son, Phillip Collins of Emporia; a step-son, Kenneth Craig of Carbondale; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Three brothers and three sisters died earlier.
No services are planned at this time. The private family inurnment will take place later.
