DeJarnette, Margaret F Harris Margaret F. DeJarnette, 84, died Saturday, May 21, 2005, at her home in Halls Summit.
The daughter of Orville "Jake" and Lillie Bender Harris, she was born Jan. 14, 1921, northeast of Cottonwood Falls. She lived in Cottonwood Falls until she was in the fourth grade, when the family moved south of Waverly.
She attended Pottowatomie Center grade school and graduated from Waverly High School in 1939. She then attended Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia, where she received her three-year teaching certificate.
She married Bryce DeJarnette on Oct. 11, 1942. They moved. to
Morrison Homes in West Palm Beach, Fla., until he went overseas. She returned to Waverly and when he returned, they moved to Halls Summit.
Mrs. DeJarnette taught school at Sunnyside and Agricola until 1943.
She was a member of the Waverly United Methodist Church where she was treasurer for seven years. She was secretary for the United Methodist Women and taught Sunday School at Halls Summit and Waverly. She held offices in the Sunflower extension home unit, was treasurer for the Coffey County Homemakers Council and the Halls Summit W.S.C.S. and was a cooking leader of the Tip 'Pop 4-H.
She is survived by her husband; a son, Dale Lynn DeJarnette of Pomona; two daughters, Peggy, Irene Johnson of Coweta, Okla. and Nancy Sue Barr of Broken Arrow, Okla.; two brothers, Orville Harris of McPherson and Donald Lee Harris of Tacoma, Wash.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A sister, Thelma
DeJarnette, died earlier.
The funeral was Tuesday, May 24, 2005, in the Waverly United Methodist Church. Burial was in Waverly Cemetery.
