Dieker, Francis William
Francis William Dieker, 82, of Westphalia died Monday, May 5, 2003, at Windsor Place in Iola, where he lived for the past year. He moved to a care center in Garnett two years ago.
Mr. Dieker and his wife, Irene, farmed for many years near Westphalia. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.
Francis William Dieker, the son of Herman and Lovina Plunkett Dieker, was born Oct. 30, 1920, at Westphalia. He graduated from Westphalia High School in 1939.
He married Irene Amelia Frisch on April 23, 1946, at Westphalia. She died Sept. 2, 1997.
Mr. Dieker was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church at Westphalia, where he was a lector for more than 30 years, and a 50-year member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a charter member of Coffey County Rural Water District No. 3 and a member of the election board for Indian Creek Township for many years.
He is survived by a son, Gary Dieker of Elizabethtown, Ky.; four daughters, Rita Dieker of Westphalia, Joyce Sitz of Wichita, Cathy Alderson of DeSoto and Sharon Olson of Belton, Mo.; two brothers, Gerald Dieker of Strong City and Tom Dieker of Westphalia; four
sisters Betty Tastove of Westphalia, Lorene Altenbernd and Shirley Henderson, both of Lawrence and Alice Frisch of Sunnyvale, Calif; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A sister, Wilma Faber, a brother, Wilfred Dieker and twin infant grandsons died earlier.
The Mass of Christian Burial was May 9, 2003, in St. Teresa Catholic Church at Westphalia. Burial was in St. Teresa Cemetery at Westphalia.
