Dorsey, Mark Lee
Former Emporian and artist Mark Lee Dorsey, 40, Kansas City, Mo., died Saturday, June 7, 2003, at his home after years of intermittent illness.
Mr. Dorsey's work won awards, was exhibited and is part of the permanent collection at the University of Michigan. He also was a musician, songwriter and painter.
Mark Lee Dorsey was born August 3, 1962, at Emporia. He graduated from Emporia State University in 1986 with a
Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in sculpture. He apprenticed in glass blowing with Hal Berger of Emporia.
He married Kathy Laura Lyons on May 18, 1985, at the Boston Avenue United Methodist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Mr. Dorsey is survived by his wife; his parents, the Rev. Frank and Nancy Dorsey of Overland Park; three brothers, Tim Dorsey of Emporia, Matt Dorsey of Cottonwood Falls and
Chris Dorsey of Overland Park; and a sister, Beth Dorsey of Lawrence.
His grandparents, Carl and Mary Pietschner and Alfred Dorsey, died earlier.
The funeral was held on Wednesday, June 11, at the Leawood United Methodist Church in Leawood.
