Flickinger, Norlene Gladys Stevenson The funeral for Norlene Gladys Cooley Flickinger, 83, of Saffordville, was Dec 20, 2001 in the Saffordville United Methodist Church. The Rev. Reta Joy Campbell of the church officiated. Mrs Flickinger donated her body to the University of Kansas Medical Center. Inurment will be in Grandview Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial contributions to Hand in Hand Hospice, Saffordville United Methodist Church or Amrican Parkinson's Disease Greater Kansas City Chapter may be sent to the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
Mrs. Flickinger died Dec 18, 2001 at the Holiday Resort care center. She was a teacher at the Saffordville and Toledo schools and a bookkeeper for Foree Tire and Retreading in Great Bend for 15 years before she retired. She was also employed at Duckwell and J C Penney.
Norlene Gladys Cooley, the daughter of Ray G and Izora Maude Cowen Cooley was born July 16 1918, at Emporia. She attended the Grandview and Prairie Hill schools and graduated from Emporia High School in 1935. She attended the College of Emporia for one year and graduated from Emporia State University with a three year teaching certificate.
She married Herbert E Stevenson on Dec 24 1939, in the Grandview community. He died Nov 19, 1991, at Plymouth.
She married Elmer Flickinger on May 12, 1994, at the Saffordville Methodist Church. Mrs Flickinger was a member of the Saffordville United Methodist Church, taught Sunday school classes and held many offices and served on many committees of the church and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Saffordville Order of the Eastern Star, was a past noble grand of the Rebekah Lodge and an Eastern Star officer. She was a member of an extension unit, business and professional clubs, Soroptomist, Red Cross, Retired Railroaders, Garden Club, a 4-H leader; she worked with Girl Scouts, Campfire Girls and Garden Club.
She is survived by her husband, Route 5; a son, John R Stevenson of Oxford, Ohio; two daughters, Nola Hively-Bewley of Waverly and Marjorie I Guesnier of Westminster, Colo.; five grandchildren, Seth Hively of Emporia, Angela Mohajir of Kansas City, Mo., Francine Guesnier of Superior, Colo., Stephanie Guesnier and John Guesnier, both of Westminster, Colo.; and three great-grandchildren. A sister, Ione Yenzer died earlier.
