Frey, J Elbert

J. Elbert Frey, 85, Abilene, died Monday, April 19, 2004, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

He was born June 2, 1918, in Abilene, the son of Christian A. and Ella (Bert) Frey. He was reared in the community of his birth and attended the local schools including Chapman High School. He graduated from Upland Academy, Upland, Calif.

He married Wilma A. Book on March 21, 1940, in Glendale, Calif. All of their married life was spent farming in the Buckeye community, rural Abilene.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma, of the home; two sons, Ron Frey of Manhattan and Mike Frey of Abilene; two daughters, Donna Brill of Wichita and Pat Hottenstein of Mt. Gretna, Pa.; one brother, Chris Frey of rural Abilene; two sisters, Eilene Book of Upland, Calif. and Ruth Johnson of Indianapolis, Ind.; eight grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; and other relatives. Local relatives include Sue Scott Smith of Cottonwood Falls.

Funeral services were held Friday, April 23, at the Zion Brethren In Christ Church, rural Abilene, with Pastor Kerry Coup and Pastor Ron Bowell officiating. Burial was in Livingston-Union Cemetery.

The family received friends Thursday, at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home.
