Goertz, Cyrus Henry

Cyrus Henry Goertz, 82, died May 31, 2005, at Marion Manor where he was a resident.

Cyrus, the son rf David and Mary Northup Goertz, was born on June 6, 1922, in Grant County, Nebraska.

Cyrus attended school at Marion where he graduated in 1941. He attended McPherson College. He married L. Dena Sampson on Sept. 27, 1942 at Marion. Cyrus served in the Air Force and was a veteran of World War II where he served in Okinawa and the Philippines. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a Master Mason. He was a member of the Eastmoor United Methodist Church.

He worked for Hassinger Plumbing and Heating while starting to farm on his own.

He is survived by a daughter, Diana Jost of Burdick; a son, David Goertz of Berwyn, Neb.; a sister, Maryanna Scharenberg of Mapleton; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and a sister, Rachel.

A Memorial Service was held Saturday, June 4, at the Eastmoor United Methodist Church. The Rev. John Goering officiated. Burial was in Canada Cemetery in Marion County.

Memorial funds are to Eastmoor United Methodist Church, Marion Manor or The Living Tree Memorial at Rock Springs Ranch and may be sent in care of Zeiner Funeral Home, P.O. Box 6, Marion, KS 66861.
