Gowen, Richard O Richard O. Gowen, 62, died Thursday, March 9, 2006, at his home in Cottonwood
Falls. Mr.
Gowen had
cancer.

the son of
Orval and
Dorothy Braucher
Gowen, was
born March 9,
1944, at
Emporia. He and Cheryl Rae Wilson were married Oct. 29, 1961, at Madison.
For over 35 years, he was a self-employed trucker. He drove nearly four million miles without a chargeable accident. Prior to trucking, he managed service stations and a truck
stop for nine years.
He was a member of the Owner-Operator Independent Driver Association and a lifetime member of the Over-Drive Million-Miler Club.
He was also a member of the United Methodist Church in Cottonwood Falls and a 36-year-member of the Zeredatha Masonic Lodge. He was a Charter member of the Flint Hills Antique Power Association since 1994, serving at various times as vice-president on the board of directors.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Darren Gowen of Fredericksburg, Va.; a daughter, Dana Gowen of Emporia; three sisters, Brabara Lay of Wichita, Shirley Dreyer of Emporia and Mary Meyer of Madison; a brother, Charles Gowen, also of Madison; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter.
The funeral service was Monday, March 13, at the United Methodist Church in Cottonwood Falls. The Rev. Melody Kimbrel officiated. Burial was at the Blakely Cemetery, north-west of Madison.
