Greer, Fern Alice Dougan Fern Alice Greer, 96, a retired teacher, died April 26, 2003, at the Twin Lakes Health Care Center. Her funeral was April 29, 2003, at the Council Grove United Methodist Church with burial at Greenwood Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be made to the Council Grove United Methodist Church, P O Box 317, Council Grove, Ks 66846.
Fern Alice Dougan was born Jan. 31, 1907, in Council Grove. She grew up on a farm east of Wilsey and attended high school in Council Grove. She attended Emporia State University and taught school in the Field and Valley Point rural schools and Alta Vista.
She married Thornton Greer on June 21 1937, in a dual wedding ceremony with her twin sister, Faye, who married Ray Hathaway. She was a long time member of the Strong City United Methodist Church and after moving to Council Grove, a member of the Council Grove United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Council Grove Garden Club and the Retired Teachers Association.
Fern is survived by a daughter, Ardith Simmons of Haysville, a son, Dr. Bob Greer of Fort Worth, Texas; five grandchildren; two sisters, Frances Estham and Marta Schweitzer both of Junction City; and a brother, James Dougan of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
