Grimwood, Edward D

Edward D. Grimwood, 86, a native of Cedar Point, died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004, at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado.

The son of Graham and Ruth Dwelle Grimwood, he was born Feb. 21, 1918. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was an avid private pilot for 50 years. For more than half a century, he was a hardware and farm supply dealer; he owned and operated Grimwood and Sons Store in Burns.

He married Betty Durbin on Nov. 19, 1943, at Burns. She died in 1999.

Mr. Grimwood was a member of the Burns Lions Club and the Florence Masonic Lodge and the Flint Hills Resource Conservation and Development Program, and had served on the Burns School Board. He was also a member of the Burns United Methodist Church.

The funeral was Saturday, Sept. 18, at the Burns United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Bush officiating. Burial, with military rites, was in Burns Cemetery. Mr. Grimwood is survived by two sons, Charlie Grimwood of Salina and Torn Grimwood of Burns; a sister, Eleanor Davidson of Florence; and two grand-children. Memorials in his name to the Burns United Methodist Church may be sent in care of Zeiner Funeral Home, 205 Elm St., Marion, KS 66861.
