Haucke, Margaret L Irwin

Margaret L. Haucke, 96, of Council Grove died Oct 31, 2001, at the Holiday Resort care center in Emporia. Mrs. Haucke was employed by the Santa Fe Railway for 22 years, beginning in the auditing department. When the Santa Fe established a public relations department, Mrs. Haucke was its first female special representative. During World War II, she was the head of the Women's Personnel department for the entire Santa Fe system.

Margaret L. Irwin, the daughter of Frank and Nancy Gaines Irwin was born April 21, 1905. at Topeka and attended Topeka schools and graduated from Topeka High School in 1923.

She married Frank Haucke of Council Grove on May 29, 1945, at Santa Fe, N.M. He died in January, 1977. After her marriage, Mrs. Haucke worked one year for the railroad. She also worked on many statewide projects in Kansas.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Virgene Gaines of Emporia; a cousin, Marty Garrard of Columbus, GA; and other relatives, Cheryl Gaines Mauderly and daughters, Laurie and Jamie, of Albuquerque, N.M. Her brothers. Frank Irwin and Charles Gaines, died earlier.

The graveside service was held Saturday, Nov. 3, in Greenwood Cemetery at Council Grove. Kendall Funeral Chapel in Council Grove was in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions to the First congregational Church in Council Grove or the Morris County Hospital foundation can be sent to the funeral home, 102 N Mission, Council Grove 66846.
