hayen, Dorothy Helken Collett Dorothy Helen Hayen, 99, died Friday, Oct. 14, 2005, at St. Luke's Living Center, Marion.
Dorothy, the daughter of Fred and Edith Phillips Collett, was born March 8, 1906, on the family farm in Elk Community northeast of Marion. She graduated from Marion High School.
She attended Emporia State University and trained to become a teacher. She taught at District 56 and Youngtown School.
On June 15, 1926, she married Walter Hayen and
they lived in Youngtown Community. He died in 1969.
She was a project leader for the Happy Hustlers 4-H club and a member of the Youngtown United Methodist Church until its closure and her membership was transferred to
Eastmoor United Methodist Church.
At age 80, Dorothy fulfilled a desire to learn to type and used it in preparing her Youngtown News column for the Marion Record.
She is survived by three
sons, Leon of Topeka, and John and Max of Marion; three daughters, Virginia Downing and Marilyn Geis of Marion and Carmen Parrack of Plano, Texas; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials are to St. Luke's Living Center or Eastmoor United Methodist Church.
Funeral services were Monday, Oct. 17, 2005, at the Eastmoor Methodist Church. Zeiner Funeral Home was in charge of the services.
