Hinkley, Donald E

Former Emporian Donald E. Hinkley, 81, of Abilene died Sept. 15, 2001 at Memorial Hospital in Abilene. Mr. Hinkley was retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. He and his wife were residents of Wichita for three years before they moved to Abilene.

Donald E. Hinkley, the son of Alfred and Mamie Cooper Hinkley, was born Dec. 10, 1919, in Lyon County. He graduated from Emporia High School. He married Chrestena M. Parks on July 14, 1941 at Cottonwood Falls. She died April 26, 1999.

Mr. Hinkley was a member of the Abilene Kiwanis Club and the Telephone Pioneers. He is survived by a sister, Norma Hinshaw of Abilene; and nieces and nephews. Two brothers died earlier.

The funeral was Wednesday in the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home at Abilene. Burial was in Abilene Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society can be sent to the funeral home, 414 NW Third St., Abilene, KS 67410.
