Holcomb, Lorene Mae Heckathorn

Longtime Emporia resident Lorene Mae Holcomb, 83, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, at her home in Manhattan.

The daughter of John and Linnie Hunter Heckathorn, she was born Feb. 3, 1920, in Emporia. She married Roy Holcomb on June 26, 1938, in Cottonwood Falls. He died April 5, 1989. Mrs. Holcomb, a homemaker, was a clerk for the Dollar General Store and for a children's clothing store in Emporia. Five years ago, she moved to Manhattan to live with her daughter.

Mrs. Holcomb is survived by a son, Gary Holcomb of Neosho Rapids; a daughter, Cheryl Countryman of Manhattan; six grandchil- dren; six step grandchil- dren; three great-grand- children; and 14 step great- grandchildren.

A son, Phillip Holcomb; five brothers, Clark Heckathorn, Elmer Heckathorn, Russell Heckathorn, Milton Heckathorn and Clyde Heckathorn; and two sis- ters, Opal Whaley and Ogal Scheck, died earlier.

The funeral was Oct. 11, 2003, in Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall in Manhattan. Robert Bliven officiated. The burial service was in Evergreen Cemetery south of Emporia. The Yorgensen-Meloan- Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan was in charge of arrangements.
