Werner, Friedericke

Mrs. Friedericke Holz died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Cal Baldwin, last Friday morning. She had been an invalid for 37 years, during which time slip was scarcely able to leave the house. About four weeks ago she was attacked by dysentery, which her weakened constitution was unable to stand, and death came to her relief as above stated.

Friedericke Werner was born in Braunsfort, Germany, March 2, 1833. At the ago of 21 she married Leopold Holz, and started for America the day after the marriage ceremony, spending her honeymoon crossing the Atlantic, looking to the United States of America for her future home. They settled at Milwaukee, Wis., where they remained until 1878, when they removed to Kansas. locat ing in Chase county. In 1889 she lost her husband, by whose side she is now sleeping. She leaves five children, three sons and two daughters. The oldest, Louis, is in Wisconsin. The others, Frank, Mrs, Ida Baker, Mrs. Alma Baldwin, and Leo, were here and nursed her in her last illness.

The deceased was a woman of noble virtues. Her feeble condition prevented her from identifying herself with any church, but her life motto, "Do unto others as you would that others should do unto you," was observed throughout her life and won for her a place in the hearts of all with whom she became acquainted. The funeral was held at the Baldwin home Sunday afternoon, the services being conducted by Rev. H. C. Case, of the M. E. Church, and the remains laid to rest beside those of her husband, in Prairie Grove cemetery.
