Jones, May E Varner
Former Resident Here Succumbs In Wichita
Mrs. Owen Jones Died Last Thursday; Burial Is In Prairie Grove Cemetery Saturday.
Mrs. Owen Jones, formerly of Cottonwood Falls, died last Thursday at her home in Wichita, where she had resided the last 14 years.
Born July 22, 1871, at Cedar Point, Kans., she was married to Owen D. Jones, May 16, 1900 in Cottonwood Falls. Mr. Jones had been custodian at the Cottonwood Falls grade school 30 years before his retirement.
Mrs. Jones was a memeber of the Presbyterian church and the Order of the Eastern Star in Cotttonwood Falls.
Surviving her are her husband of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Frank Layton, Wichita; two sons, David P. Jones, Wichita, and Guy F. Jones, Stockton, Calif.; two brothers. Sol Varner, Raton, N.M., and William Varner, Sunnydale, Calif.; four sisters, Mrs. Al Henderson and Mrs Alta Stanbrough, Wichita, Mrs.Earl Butler, Conway Springs, and Miss Elizabeth Varner, Raton, N.M.; 20 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday morning at 10 o'clock at the Broadway Mortuary in Wichita. Graveside services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Prairie Grove cemetery. The pallbearers were Lester Stout, Wilbur Stout, Keith Stout, Elmore Stout, Ed Boles and Karl Hubert. The Brown Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements.
