Rites Here Today for Owen D. Jones.
Had Remained Familiar Figure To Many As He Worked At Local Grade School 35 Years.
Owen D. Jone, 89, custodian at the Cottonwood Falls grade school for 35 years before retiring and moving to Wichita, died Sunday in a Wichita hospital. He had been in failing health for some time and had been hospitalized nine weeks.
Funeral services were held this Wednesday, August 31, at the Broadway Mortuary in Wichita. Masonic graveside rites were conducted the same afternoon at three o'clock at Prairie Grove Cemetery. The Brown Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements.
Owen D. Jones was born April 13, 1871 at Bethesda, Wales. He was united in marriage to May Ellen Varner on May 16, 1900 at Cottonwood Falls. Mrs. Jones died February 4, 1960 in Wichita.
Surviving Mr. Jones are two sons, David P. Jones, El Dorado, and Guy F. Jones, Stocketon, Calif; one daughter, Mrs. Frank Layton, Wichita; 10 grandchildren, and 23 great grandchildren.
Mr. Jones had been a member of the Zeredatha Masonic Lodge No. 80, A.F. & A. M., for about 50 years.
