Manion, Martha Hailey Mrs. A. M. Manion, the mother of Mrs. George Gillespie, of this city, and a former resident of Chase county died at the home of her son, W. A. Manion, in Lecompton, Kansas, Tuesday of last week following a long illness. Mrs. Manion and her husband lived in this city about seven. years ago when they became acquainted with quite a number of people of this place, Mr. Manion's death occurred during their residence here and since that time Mrs. Manion has made her home with her children in different parts of the state.
The remains were brought from Lecompton to this city Thursday and the funeral services were held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Gillaspie in this
city at 2:30 o'clock in the afternoon. Rev. J. E. Bryan, pastor of the Cottonwood Falls Methodist church preached the sermon after which interment was made in the Prairie Grove cemetery beside the grave of her husband.
Mrs. Manion whose maiden name was Martha Hailey, was born in Vandalia, Ill., in the year 1838. She grew to young womanhood there and was married and that state remained their home for many years. They came to, Kansas about thirty-five years ago locating in Nemaha county where they lived until they moved to this city.
Mrs. Manion leaves seven children who are Mrs. Geo. Gillespie, of this city; Mrs. J. C. Martin of Nemaha county; Mrs. Bird of Silver Lake, Kansas; Mrs. James Osman of Burlington, Kansas; W. A. and P. N. Manion of Lecompton, Kansas, and John Manion of Corning, Kansas.
The death of Mrs. Manion will bring regret to the friends and neighbors who knew her and her husband during the years they lived here and they extend to the bereaved children and relatives their sincere sympathy.
